A showerhead is constantly spouting water out. Since water contains calcium and other mineral deposits, it’s no wonder than they get clogged every now and then. However, just because it’s clogged doesn’t mean that you have to replace it. Here’s a very effective way of cleaning a clogged showerhead.
You will need a zippered bad or even a sandwich bag, an elastic band, and some white vinegar. Fill your bag about half way with vinegar and fasten it to the showerhead using the elastic band. Make sure that the showerhead is fully immersed in the vinegar. Leave the bad on for about 12 hours. If the showerhead is really rusty, then leave the bad on for longer. When done, remove the bag and rinse the showerhead with fresh water. Before dumping the vinegar down the drain, make sure you pour some baking soda first. Baking soda and vinegar produce effervescent reactions when mixed. This reaction will clean your drains as well.
Unfortunately, not all showerheads can be cleaned using this method. If yours is really rusty , then you should consider replacing it. Replacing them is easy as long as you have the right tools. However, for best results, we suggest that you call a plumbing contractor. You can use this opportunity to perform a complete check on your plumbing system in order to avoid any future problems.
